Background: 2 Role-Playing Events in Greece
We are preparing two innovative events for young people to meet and experience a 1-week role-playing adventure in Greece based on the cultural background of Greek mythology. Players will be immersed in the story in small international groups in an epic adventure in which their actions have a major impact on all the other groups that get involved in the adventure at the same time.
The game sessions will take place inside as well as outside, as we experience the breathtaking greece landscape as a backdrop to the rich cultural heritage. We will use our own custom-designed role-playing system for this and you will become part of the system's evolution.
This is not a LARP. Imagine this as an advanced pen-and-paper role-playing game with a few innovative features which you have probably never experienced before. We will use a few interesting locations as the background for the game to enhance the game's atmosphere.
We will run the event twice, once on the island of Syros and once on the island of Rhodes.
Date of the event
Syros: 08.08.2015 - 15.08.2015 (+travel days)
Rhodes: 20.09.2915 - 27.09.2015 (+travel days)
(Please remember that depending on your location you might need an additional travel day before and after the event, so keep those days free!)
Update: The Syros event is currently on hold until the Greek National Agency releases the funds. We won't be able to run the event on the planned dates. We expect to run it either later this year or next year.
The event is funded by the ERASMUS+ programme of the European Union that supports intercultural exchange of young people. This allows us to cover travel costs and accommodation costs for the participants.
Can I apply for both events?
Yes, you can apply for both events. However, in order to give others a chance we will only take you to one event, should we choose your application. Applying for both events raises your chances of getting in though.
What about sightseeing and resting?
You will have one free day that you can spend as you like, either with sightseeing or resting or hiking on your own. We will give you some hints about places worth visiting. In the evening we will have dinner together and start again with a short gaming session.
Who can apply?
In order to apply you need to be between 18 and 30 years old. Currently we can only accept participants from the following countries: Belgium, Finland, Germany, Greece or Iceland.
All applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the coordination team. The best applications will receive an email notification on April 27th 2015 of their preliminary selection for the role-playing event. You have to respond to this email within 48 hours to confirm your participation in the event.
Update: We are giving away a few extra slots for Belgium and Germany. So if you haven't applied yet you can still do so until May 10th. However, the quicker you are the better your chances are. If we receive enough really good applications we might close the application period early.
Do I need to have any role-playing experience?
Absolutely not! We welcome those who are eager to try role-playing with us. All you need is the right attitude and the willingness to try something new. If you are an experienced role-player we will ask you to be flexible enough to step away from your "normal" game routine and try something different with us.
What about accommodation and catering?
In Syros we stay in a scout camp with two big sleeping rooms with mattresses for all of us. We will have a cook helping us prepare one meal per day. All of us will have to help out preparing the meals, washing the dishes etc.
In Rhodos we will stay in a hotel with an all inclusive offer.
Who is organizing the event?
The people behind this event are informal youth groups from Germany, Greece, Belgium, Finland and Iceland that are interested in cultural exchange, creating innovative events, and role-playing games. Overall coordination is in the hands of TALE (Team Adventure Learning Europe).
Take a look at the "Coordinators" page for a detailed description of the people planning the event.
Will there be more events of this type?
We certainly hope so. We already held an event like this in Iceland last year and we are currently working on different plans for the future. If you are located in a different country that is not eligible at the moment you could get in touch with us and help us open up the event for your country as well. You can also sign up below so that you will be informed directly when we offer another role-playing event.
Does the event cost anything?
We cover the travel costs for the flight, the travel from the airport to our location in greece, lodging, food and softdrinks and any group activities. You just need to take care of your travel to the airport in your home country. If you are from Greece you need to come to our locations (Syros or Rhodes) by yourself. Of course, if you already live there, this will be easy for you.
